Event Program
WHAT DOES IT COST ?
One of the main aims of the event is to be FREE or at least very low cost, allowing every family to come along and join in. Events and activities are generally provided by local community and sporting groups as a promotion and as a service to the public through thier support of the event.
To help maintain the event, gold coin donations are requested for travel on the bus and event the program (includes sand castle entry form). Food and drink prices are the responsibility of individual stall holders but are again very reasonable.
ACTIVITIES
The event incorporates a full day of activities and entertainment that is suited to both participants and spectators with programs both on and off water. Activities cater to children of all ages as well as family groups or team events. All activities are free of charge.
ON THE BEACH
THE "Talk to CHEMMART" SANDCASTLE COMPETITION
This popular event will again be a feature on the beach covering the entire length encompassed by the event. Just turn up, get an entrant number from the information tent, claim your spot and get busy building. There will be a public choice voting form on the back of the prospectus with the winners announced in the afternoon. There are also some great prizes on offer.
JUNIOR SURF LIFE SAVING EVENTS
Run by the Kingston Surf Life Saving Club – beach flags and novelty events for individuals and teams.
BEACH VOLLEY BALL
Run by the Beach Volley Ball Association – beach volley ball for teams and individuals
CRICKET TASMANIA BEACH CRICKET
Games run by Cricket Tasmania over the course of the day for children of all ages. Corporate beach cricket grudge matches – spectators beware, these teams are old rivals.
GYMNASTICS AND CHEERLEADING
A huge range of gymnastics and cheerleading demonstrations as well as a kids gym play area provided by Kingston Gymnastics Centre
BLACKMANS BAY SCOUTS
Want some dizzying fun. Get along to the Blackmans Bay Scouts for some wilde rides on the Hurdy Gurdy. Whats a Hurdy Gurdy? You will just have to go along and see for yourself.
BEACH SOCCER
Combine music with high intensity soccer, spectacular action and plenty of goals you have a spectators dream. Public fields also available.
ON THE ESPLANADE
CHRISTOPHER JOHNSON PARK
Thanks to Youth of Kingborough Christopher Johnson Park (near the dog beach) will be a hive of activity. There will be live, local music and youth focused activities throughout the day.

So ditch your parents and get down to the park to be involved.
FOOD & CULTURE
The Esplanade will play host to a strip of stalls offering sumptuous delights, information, entertainment and two Big Aussie BBQ's.
ENTERTAINMENT
On stage entertainment will include a line up of relaxing, local musical acts over the course of the day so that parents can sit back and relax and let the cool musical strains waft over them as well as commentary on events and the awarding of prizes.
THE RED DOUBLE DECKER BUS
The Association has hired two red double decker buses that will shuttle between Kingston Beach and the Kingborough Sports Centre and stopping in central Kingston as well. So even if you’re a local, make your way to the Sports Centre or central Kingston, and experience a little bit of London right here in Tassie, the view from the top deck will be spectacular.
Passage is by gold coin donation.
PARK ‘n’ RIDE
As there will be no parking in the vicinity of Kingston Beach in order to control traffic congestion the Kingborough Council have allocated the use of land at the Kingborough Sports Centre for park n ride for visitors coming from the south and north. Access will be quick and easy off the Huon Highway from both north and south onto Summerleas Rd. Visitors will then be picked up by the double deckers and taken to the event.
MAIN STAGE
The main stage will come alive throughout the day with a live broadcast from Hobart's 7HOFM, live music, event commentary, the Kingborough Mayor‘s speech and the presentation of prizes.
THE BIG AUSSIE BBQ's
The big Aussie BBQ's will be bigger and better next year and will be set up as the main catering for the event. The BBQ's will be run by local community groups the Lions Club of Kingborough and Kingston Rotary and will provide a range of affordable food and drink options.
INFORMATION
Whilst the kids are participating in the many sporting activities there will be plenty of things to do and see for the parents as the esplanade will play host to many information and service providers such as home energy consulting and the Cancer Council.
ON WATER
THE 7HOFM BYO KAYAK RACE
Everyone is invited to enter this fun kayak race. Just turn up with your kayak (or anything that floats) and have a go. It will be heaps of fun with separate kids and adults races the competition will be fierce so start training now.
SURF LIFE SAVING RACES
The thrid race of the 2XU Ocean Swim series will kick off at 10:00am. Events ranging from 300m to 2km for ages from 12 to 99. Registration from 08:30 at the sailing club or get more details and submit an registration via www.slst.asn.au.
KINGSTON SEA SCOUTS
Offering ‘have at rowing’ with boys and girls over the age of 11 and adults on one of their three 18 foot Sea Scout Patrol Boats – two of which are traditional wooden ‘Whaler’ boats with Gaff sailing rigs. The sea scouts will also co-ordinate the great Kayak race.
FLAGSHIP: THE LADY NELSON
The majestic Lady Nelson will be the event flagship as she sails south from Hobart to take her place in the bay for the afternoon.
AUSTRALIAN VOLUNTEER COAST GUARD
The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard in conjunction with the Kingston Surf Life Savers will be providing water safety for the event and again, a great community contribution.
KING OF THE WATER
Will it be a swimmer or the overall winner of the great kayak race ? Come on the day and cheer on your favourites as they vie to get their name on the perpetual shield.
